There are a lot of ideas and ways you can save money when you shop.  But, rather than you have to look for them all, I’ve got them here.  More than 25 ways you can save money at Kohl’s!!

Kohl’s is a popular shopping destination for clothes and household items.  And, on Black Friday, the deals are some of the best you’ll find anywhere!   You may know some of these savings tips, but others may be new to you!

HOW TO SAVE MONEY AT KOHL’S

1. SHOP WITH FREE KOHL’S GIFT CARDS

A simple way you can save money on every Kohl’s purchase is to get FREE gift cards!  Sign up for Swagbucks and use that platform to do all of your online searches.  Save them up, and you’ll quickly have $100 or more to use to shop at Christmas!

2.  BEST TIME TO SHOP — 3 PM FRIDAY TO 1 PM SATURDAY

Believe it or not, there is a time to shop at Kohl’s, and it is when you can get the doorbusters.  When they have these discounts, they are usually available on Friday afternoon through Saturday.  If you shop during this window, you will often find some of the best prices.  Rather than miss a deal, shop at this time and you will find not only the regular weekly markdowns but also some of those time-sensitive offers as well.

3.  COMBINE RECEIPTS TO REACH KOHL’S CASH LIMITS

If there is an offer to spend $50 and get $10 in Kohl’s Cash, and you spend $42, you know you will not qualify.  However, if during the same promotional period, you visit Kohl’s again and spend at least $8, you can COMBINE your receipts to get your Kohl’s cash!

Yes!  It is true!  You do not have to spend $50 in a single transaction but can combine multiple shopping trips to reach the limit.  The only thing to remember is that it has to be in the same promotional period.

For instance, if the cash offer is running from July 3 – July 10, anything you buy during that time can be combined to reach your limit.  However, if you shop again on July 14th, that would be a new Kohl’s Cash period, and your receipt can’t be combined with those during the prior shopping period.

Just ask your cashier, and they can do it for you right at the register!  Now, aren’t you annoyed at all of the free Kohl’s Cash you may have been missing out on?

4.  YOU CAN SHOP ONLINE AND PICK IT UP IN THE STORE

Kohl’s offers free shipping when you spend $75 ($50 during the holidays) or if you have a Kohl’s Charge and one of the codes they have available each month.  However, you can avoid worrying about shipping at all by shopping online and picking the item up at your local store.

Just place your order online and opt to pick it up at your local store instead.  That way, you get the maximum discount PLUS avoid shipping charges.  You also get it that same day!

5.  SHOP WITH DISCOUNTED GIFT CARDS

One of the simplest ways to save money on every purchase is to buy discounted Kohl’s gift cards!  Then, use them for every purchase you make.  You can save as much as 15% of the value of the card.  For example, a $25 card may sell for $22.50, which is money in your pocket.

6. UNDERSTAND THE DIGITAL PRICE TAGS

Those digital price tags you find in the store tell you more than just the price of a product.  They have codes that tell you more about the price, including if it is even on sale or not!  The code is in the upper corner of the tag.  Here are what each of them means:

• GV: Limited time sales, such as Night Owl and Early Bird
• BB: Bonus Buy
• S: Sale Price
• NM:  Item will drop in price again
• PP:  Product placement (it is not on sale, this is the regular price)
• BGH:  Buy one get one 50% off

7.  PAY OFF YOUR KOHL’S CHARGE IMMEDIATELY AT THE REGISTER

Sometimes, the discount offers are made available only to Kohl’s credit card holders.  You can use your card and then turn around and pay it off right away.  You will never have to worry about forgetting to make the payment, risking interest payments and will still get all of the Kohl’s card perks!

8. KOHL’S CASH THRESHOLD IS REACHED AT $48

You don’t have to spend $50 or more to qualify for your Kohl’s cash.  Just hit $48, and you will be on your way to adding up your cash!   Don’t forget that your Kohl’s cash is determined after all discounts but before any applicable sales tax.

9.  TAKE ADVANTAGE OF KOHL’S PRICE MATCHING POLICY

One Kohl’s hack many people do not realize is that they price match!! Kohl’s will price match its competitors, and you can still use up to a 15% off coupon when matching.  Here is what you need to know about this service:

• Must have the competitor’s ad from a physical store.
• Will not match online pricing (such as Amazon).
• They will not price match to its own Kohls.com prices.
• Will not match clearance or Buy One offers.
• You can use coupons and Kohl’s cash when price matching; however, the coupon is limited to 15% off and is applied

10.  GET A REFUND IF YOU FIND YOUR ITEM ON SALE AFTER YOU BUY

Don’t you hate it when you buy something to see it go on sale a few days later?  If this happens to you at Kohl’s, you can get a refund back on the difference.  Here are the requirements for your item to qualify:

• You bought the item on sale or at regular price.
• Within two weeks (14 days) of the purchase date, the price of the item was further reduced from the final price you paid.
• You have the original, dated sales receipt.
• The item is not a Clearance markdown.
• It is not a Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise.
• The item was not purchased as a Buy One, Get One (BOGO).
• It is not a current Buy One, Get One (BOGO).

If you used a coupon or code on your purchase, then that offer must still be valid to have it applied to the new price.  For example, if you bought something for $50 and used a 15% off coupon, you would have paid $42.50.  If that same item is on sale for $47 4 days later AND the 15% off coupon has not yet expired, you would get a refund of $2.55.  That is the difference between your purchase price of $42.50 and the new final price of $39.95.

11.  CLEARANCE RUNS 60, 70, 80 AND THEN 90% OFF

Just watch the tags as they will start clearance at 60% off and will continue to reduce the price until it is marked down 90% off.  (And don’t forget to use coupons and Kohl’s Cash to make your deal even sweeter)!

12.  BE CAREFUL OF RETURNS WHEN YOU HAVE EARNED KOHL’S CASH

Kohl’s Cash is great, but it is important that you understand the return policy.  Your Kohl’s Cash or return value is adjusted depending upon how you earned the cash and if it has been redeemed.

KOHL’S CASH EARNED BY NOT YET REDEEMED

If you return an item on which you earned Kohl’s cash, the value of the cash may be reduced.  For example, let’s say you spent $125 and earned $20 in Kohl’s cash.  If you return a $30 item, you’ve now spent only $95, so your Kohl’s Cash value will be reduced to $10.   However, if you return a $20 item, you’ll still have spent $105, so the value of the Kohl’s Cash will not be affected.

KOHL’S CASH REDEEMED 

It gets a bit trickier if you have spent your Kohl’s cash, but later need to return an item on which you earned it.  For the sake of these examples, let’s assume you spend $125 and earned $20 in Kohl’s cash.

a) You return a $30 item from your original $125 purchase.  Since you already redeemed the $20 in Kohl’s cash, you will only receive $10 back on your purchase.

b) You return a $20 item from your original $125 purchase. Since the total purchase qualifies for the full value of the Kohl’s cash redeemed, you will get the full $20 back.

c) You return $80 worth of items from the original $125 purchase.  There is no refund amount available, so you will be issued a Kohl’s in-store gift voucher for $60 ($80 less the $20 in Kohl’s cash already spent).  You will need to use that to purchase other items in the store.

13.  YOU CAN RETURN WITHOUT A RECEIPT

If you shop using your Kohl’s card, returns are the simplest.  All transactions are stored on your card and make the return without any problems.  They often do not even require you to get store credit – they can put it right back on your card for you.

You can also make returns without a receipt if you shop using any other credit card.  They will scan your card and can find the transaction.  The only caveat is that your purchase must have been made within the past twelve months.

Cash shoppers, however, may not be as fortunate. The reason is that if you can’t produce a receipt, they will offer you the lowest price for that item over the past 13 weeks + they assume you had at least a 15% discount.  So, if you paid $8 and it happened to drop to just $5 6 weeks later, you will only get $5 back.  If you pay with cash, make sure you keep your receipts.

14.  KOHL’S COUPONS ARE GREAT – BUT THERE ARE EXCLUSIONS

Make sure you read the coupons carefully as many times there are exclusions to using them on items such as Fitbit, Nike, Keurig K-Cups and more.  Most people think they can use them on anything, but they can not.

What you CAN do is use your Kohl’s cash toward the purchase of any items.  Nothing is excluded from that redemption.

15.   YOU CAN FIND KOHL’S COUPON, ONLINE CODES, AND REBATES IN ONE PLACE

Many times there are rebates offered on appliances, but how do you know which items qualify?  Simple!  Visit the Kohl’s Rebates Page to find a list of the current rebates.  You will be able to access the forms and get all of the details you need to know about before you shop.

You can also quickly find any current coupons on the Kohl’s coupons and Offers page!  You’ll find coupons for 15% and 20% off.

16.  CONVERT ANY ONLINE CODE INTO A KOHL’S IN-STORE COUPON WITH THE KOHL’S APP

If you have the Kohl’s app on your phone, you can create an in-store coupon!   First, download the app. Then, visit our Kohl’s coupon codes page to find the best codes (including the coveted 30% off coupon, when available).

Click on the menu button and open My Wallet.  You can add coupons and offers right here. Just type in the code for the online offer, and it will turn into a scannable coupon that you can use in the store.  Smart!!

17.  55 OR OLDER?  SAVE 15% ON WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is Senior day at all locations.  You will automatically get that applied to your purchase at checkout – and you can still use other codes and Kohl’s Cash to increase the savings!!!

18.  KOHL’S CASH IS ALWAYS APPLIED FIRST WHEN REDEEMED

If you are redeeming your Kohl’s Cash and also happen to have an additional coupon to use, the Kohl’s Cash is applied first and then any other discounts after that.  Here is the discount order:

Kohl’s Cash
Department coupons ($10/$50 juniors purchase)
Dollar off coupons ($10/$25 purchase)
Percentage off coupon (20% off)
Yes2YourRewards

19.  LOOK FOR THE DOT

Kohl’s has digital price tags on many items. If you look in the upper corner, you may see a dot.  If this is the case, it means that is the lowest price that item will be, until it goes on clearance.

20. EARN A $5 COUPON FOR EVERY $100 YOU SPEND WITH KOHLS YES2YOU REWARDS

Make sure you are signed up for Yes2You Rewards, so you can get paid to shop!  When you spend $100 or more, you will get a $5 reward.  That means every time you shop; you are earning 5% on your purchase!

They also send out great birthday offers and more to members – so it pays to get signed up (and best of all – it is FREE to join)!  Just watch your inbox for your Yes2You Rewards codes.

21.  USE THE REGISTRY FOR INSTANT SAVINGS

If you are getting married or having a baby, you will want to complete a registry.  You will get 10% off for doing just that.  Best of all, when someone buys at least one item on your list, you will get a coupon to save 15% off a future purchase!

22. KNOW WHAT TO BUY AND WHAT TO AVOID

I typically find the best discounts for my family on kitchen, bath and apparel items.  That is because in most cases, you can still use an additional coupon for more significant savings.  I find that items like electronics, Fitbit and Nike apparel and the like are not good buys – because you can’t use a coupon (however, they will apply towards your purchase to reach Kohl’s Cash – and you can redeem Kohl’s cash on any of them).

Just don’t fall for the coupon hype.  Do the research and find out what the same item sells for at another store before you jump in and get it there.  It may not be the best deal available.

23.  SIGN UP FOR EMAILS AND TEXT ALERTS AND SAVE 15%!

Need a coupon?  You can get one by signing up for emails and text alerts.  Sign up for emails HERE. Then, text SAVE07 to 56457 to receive an offer for 15% off on your phone.

24.  USE THE KIOSK

If the item you need is not in stock, you can use the kiosk and get the item shipped to your home for free!  You can still use coupons and Kohl’s cash, just like you would if you shop in the store.

25. USE KOHL’S STACKABLE COUPONS

A little known secret is that shoppers can combine a percentage off coupon with a value off coupon for even bigger savings. You can also use your Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You rewards at the same time you redeem your coupon.  These are referred to as Kohl’s stackable coupon codes.

You can stack a 30% off coupon with a $10/$50 coupon, as well as your Kohl’s cash and Yes2You Reward for big savings! When you shop online, you are limited to using four total codes on a single purchase.

26. SAVE MORE WITH A KOHL’S CREDIT CARD

Credit cards are not always an option for everyone, but if you can, I would get the Kohl’s charge.  Cardholders receive an offer to save 30% off every month – resulting in 12 offers a year! Also, there are free shipping offers every month that available only for cardholders.

And — new cardholders get a special discount for a one-time savings offer of 35% off your purchase!  As mentioned above, you can pay your balance off at the register, so you never have to wait for a bill!

27.  NO LIMIT ON RETURNS

Believe it or not, Kohl’s has no limits on when you can return items.  You will need a receipt or your credit card used to make the purchase, and they’ll do the return at any time.

The only exception is on electronics, which is limited to 30 days after purchase.

Kohl’s is a great place to shop, and when you know these easy ways to save money, you’ll never pay more than you need to!

Kohl’s is one of the only retail stores where savings average at 60%, and you can save even more when you have a coupon. It is beyond us how much you can already save in Kohl’s, but there are ways to expand your extreme couponing at this store.

1. The best times to shop! Kohl’s has what is called “Shop Power Hour” specials, where you can save an additional 10 to 25% both in the store and online. On Fridays, from 3 PM to close and Saturdays from open to 1 PM, you will notice markdowns. The catch is this only happens a couple of times a month, but it will be advertised, so keep a lookout for this sale!
2. Price Tags with a square. If you notice a square in the upper-right corner of the LCD price tag screen, this means that the item has reached the lowest price of the season. In other words, the price of this item will not drop again, unless it goes on clearance.
3. Decode Kohl’s Price Codes! Just like Costco, Kohl’s has a coding system, helping you track markdowns. You will notice these codes in the upper-right hand corner of the electronic price screen: BB=Bonus Buy, BGH= Buy One, Get One-Half Off, PP =Product Placement; the sale price is fixed and not a percent discount, S=Sale; this item will be on sale for 1-2 weeks.
4. Get rewarded when prices drop after your purchase! If an item you bought goes on sale within 14 days of your purchase, you can go to the store and show them your original receipt and proof that the item is now reduced from the final price you paid. This trick does not work for clearance or BOGO markdowns though.
5. Kohls Online Coupons! Never place an order on Kohls.com without a coupon! Kohls allows you to use up to four coupon codes in one purchase. This means you can use one sitewide percent-off coupon code, a department specific/percentage off/dollar off coupon code, Kohl’s rewards codes, and a free shipping code.
6. Kohl’s Rewards Card! Sign up for the Kohl’s “Yes2YouRewards”. You can do this in the store, online, or in the app. When you pay, just show your rewards card and you get a point for every dollar you spend and $5 for every 100 points. Basically, you will get 5% cash back. You will also receive bonus points and special offers throughout the year. Be sure to give your birthday when signing up to get the birthday discount!
7. Do not buy electronics or shoes! Kohl’s has a list of products that are not eligible for promotional offers or coupons. This list includes brands such as Nike, Keurig, and NurtiBullet.
8. Best things to buy at Kohls! Apparel and kitchen appliances are some of the best deals.
9. Save ever more with mail rebates! Kohl’s has a mail-in rebate that can get you $40 to $50 in savings. Rebate offers can include prepaid Visa cards, cash back, valuable credits towards future purchases, and more!
10. Coupons can be redeemed on clearance items! Kohl’s clearance prices are 60 to 90% off regular price. Do not just settle for these percentage off when you can also use a 30% off coupon on top of the price for additional savings!

So let’s get to the 10 ways to save more on the things you love at Kohl’s!

Kohl’s Cash

For every $50 you spend at Kohl’s during a promotional period, you’ll get $10 in Kohl’s Cash, which is a coupon to be redeemed at a later time.

For example, a promotion is going on from August 18 to August 21. Any Kohl’s Cash earned during those few days can be redeemed at Kohl’s or on their website from August 22 to September 5.

By the way, a $48 purchase (or anything within $2 of the earned criteria) will be rounded up and you’ll get the reward.

Yes2You Rewards

When you sign up for the Yes2You Rewards program, you’ll earn one point for every dollar you spend while shopping at Kohl’s — and enrollment is free!

Once you get to 100 points, you’ll receive a $5 reward.

The rewards cash expires about 30 days after it’s issued, so again, it’s a good idea to download the Kohl’s app so you don’t miss out on the rewards.

Signing up for Yes2You Rewards also entitles you to eight savings offers a year and a birthday gift.

Today’s Deals

While you’ll see plenty of advertising for Kohl’s on TV and in the newspaper, the Today’s Deals section of the website is the best place to find the latest discounts.

As you can see, there are often multiple promotions going on at the same time:

Some of the “regular coupons” can’t be used for certain brands, but Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You Rewards can be earned and redeemed on excluded merchandise.

Here’s a list of the brands that are excluded from some coupons.

Gold Star Clearance

You may want to plan your trips to Kohl’s around the Gold Star Clearance, a semi-annual event that just so happened to be going on when we wrote this story.

During this sales event, you can save up to 80% off original prices.

Night Owl and Early Bird specials

Twice a month, Hip2Save.com says Kohl’s marks down prices on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. The specials are offered both in-store and online.

Combine your coupons

You might open your Kohl’s app and wonder how you’re ever going to use all of the coupons you’ve earned before the expiration date.

Fortunately, you can combine them. Here’s the policy from Kohls.com:

1. First, department-specific dollar-off or percent-off promo codes will be applied to the qualifying items.
2. Then, any dollar-off coupons (like Kohl’s Cash and Rewards Cash) will be subtracted from your subtotal.
3. Lastly, the ONE sitewide percent-off discount will be applied.

Price matching and price adjustments

Kohl’s says it will match a competitor’s price, but it only applies to in-store products. So you can’t find something cheaper on Amazon and get the lower price.

And if an item drops in price within two weeks of your purchase, go back to Kohl’s for a price adjustment.

Senior discount

Are you 55 or older? Wednesday is your day to shop! You’ll get 15% off. Just be sure to bring your identification to verify your age.

Understand codes on electronic price tags

To make sense of the pricing system, you may want to pay attention to the codes in the corner of the digital product signs, Kiplinger reports.

• BB = Bonus Buy
• BGH = Buy One, Get One Half Off
• PP = Product Placement
• S = Sale

And if you spot a square in the upper-right corner of the electronic tag, the product is at its lowest price before clearance.

Buy discounted gift cards

If you’re not using Kohl’s charge or a rewards credit card to save a little more, you might be able to snatch up a discounted gift card online.

1. Sign Up for email and Text Alerts

You’ll save 15% by signing up for EMAIL or mobile app alerts—sign up for both and get two different coupons. You can sign up for EMAIL ALERTS HERE or to get text alerts, text SAVE24 to 56457.

2. Download the Kohl’s App

Use the Kohl’s app as your personal coupon organizer.  Not only will you see all the current coupons available, you can also scan in physical coupons and Kohl’s cash to save in your “wallet”. When you add an item to your cart, you will be able to see immediately how the coupons in your account apply to your purchase.

3. Join the Yes2You Rewards Program

The YES2YOU REWARDS PROGRAM is free to join and gives you $5 for every $100 you spend. You can redeem these dollars on anything at Kohl’s. There are also extra discount offers, a birthday gift, plus watch for a special offer in your e-mail every Monday.  These REWARDS can be stacked with all current coupons and Kohl’s Cash!

Tip: You’ll get 50 rewards points when you download the Kohl’s app and sign in to the app for the first time!  That gets you half way to your first $5 reward.

4. Sign up for a Kohl’s Charge Card

You may be anti-credit cards, but the KOHL’S CHARGE CARD is one store card definitely worth getting!!  You’ll get a 30% off coupon when you sign up, and then get even more in the mail.  Cardholders also save up to 30% off once a month, and get free shipping coupons regularly. If you spend more than $600 in one year, you’ll get even more discounts!  No other store gives so many extra discounts to card holders!

5. Always Aim for Kohl’s Cash

There are frequent promotions where you can earn $10 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 spent.  This is basically 20% back on your purchase and should be the first thing you aim for when shopping.  Watch for Black Friday/Cyber Monday when they run $15 back!

Tip:  You actually only have to spend $48 to get the Kohl’s Cash back!  So don’t start throwing in wash cloths… just checkout and you’ll get your Kohl’s Cash.  Also, they do have an expiration date, but some stores will let you use them after the expire.

6. Combine Receipts to Earn Kohl’s Cash

Keep all your receipts during a Kohl’s Cash promotion period. If your receipts add up to more than the minimum to receive Kohl’s Cash, you can take your receipts to customer service and they will still give you the Kohl’s Cash as if you had spent that amount in one transaction.

7. Stack Coupons, Rewards, and Kohl’s Cash

When you’re ready to start shopping, check out TODAY’S DEALS on their website; new coupons typically come out on Wednesdays or Fridays.

It’s important to know how your KOHL’S COUPONS and rewards will apply. You can use up to 4 coupons on the same purchase!! They apply in this order:

1 – Any Department Specific Coupons (dollar off or percentage)
2 – Dollar or Percentage off your entire purchase coupons
3 – Free Shipping
4 – Then Kohl’s Cash and/or Yes2Rewards cash.

Keep in mind that most times you will have more coupons to use online than you can in the store.  You didn’t really want to have to leave the house anyway.

8. Keep Your Receipts For Price Adjustments

Once you have bought something, you have 2 weeks to go back to the store with your receipt for a price adjustment if the item goes on a better sale. This even applies to coupons if you forgot to use them when you were shopping! They will issue you a refund for the difference.  The only exception is if the item was or is a BOGO sale or a clearance markdown.

9. Match Competitor Prices

Kohl’s will match competitors’ prices! This applies only to in-store items, not online. The best part is that you can still earn Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You rewards on price-matched products!  Competitors must be national retailers with physical stores, excluding Costco and Sam’s Club.  They will also match any price you find on KOHLS.COM. Note: You can only use a coupon up to 15% off on price matches.

10. Shop the Gold Star Clearance

Every so often, Kohl’s will run what they call GOLD STAR CLEARANCE EVENTS, usually at the end of a season. Items will be marked up to 80% off! Don’t forget that you can stack coupons with these deals as well.  Supplies are limited to what is on hand, and you will find a lot more sizes and options ONLINE.

11. Don’t Pay for Shipping

Kohl’s charge cardholders can often get free shipping and there is almost always a free shipping code if you search online. If you can’t find a code, use the in-store kiosk at the store and get free shipping with no minimum purchase! This is perfect if the store is out of your size or doesn’t have the clearance deal you found online.

12. It Pays To Select In-Store Pick Up

If you can’t get to the store to use the kiosk and can’t get free shipping online, make sure to select in-store pick up.  Not only are you saving an extra cost, but many times they will offer an additional $5 in Kohl’s Cash when you switch your order from shipping to in-store pick up.

13. Learn the Sale Codes

Sometimes saving money requires you to act like an investigator. Taking a careful look at the tags on items will help you know if it’s the best deal you can get! The best one to watch for: If there is a small square dot in the top right corner of a digital tag, that means you won’t find a lower price until the end-of-season clearance and you should snag it!

14. Buy Discounted Gift Cards

If you don’t want to pay with a Kohl’s Charge Card, another great option is to buy discounted gift cards online. GROUPON sometimes offers discounts (today I got an offer for a $20 Kohl’s gift card for $10) and RAISE.COM sells used gift cards at up to 15% off.  RAISE also offers regular coupon codes that will save you an additional amount!

Remember you can still use coupons on your order at KOHLS, so you are just stacking on extra savings!

15. Look for Rebates

Before you go shopping, check out the CURRENT REBATES Kohl’s is offering. They can net you up to $50 in savings in the form of prepaid Visa cards, cash back, or credit toward future purchases.  Rebate offers along with Kohl’s cash are also fun as you will earn Kohl’s cash on the pre-rebate price!

16. Shop at the Right Time

After 3 p.m. on Fridays and before 1 p.m. on Saturdays are Kohl’s “Night Owl” and “Early Bird” hours. You can often get an 10-25% off sale prices! Sales are both online and in stores. Kohl’s also offers some of their biggest discounts on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.

17. Don’t Miss Senior Day if You are Over 60

If you’re over the age of 60, the best day to shop is Wednesday because you’ll save 15% off your total purchase! You can even stack dollar-off coupons, Kohl’s Cash, and Yes2You rewards cash on top of the discount.

18. Sign Up for Kohl’s Wifi

Connect to Kohl’s Wi-Fi from your phone while in the store for the possibility of a $5 off $25 or $10 off $30 coupon!  The wi-fi is already free, so why not?!

19. Shop at Kohl’s through Ebates

Use EBATES to earn cash back on online purchases. SIGN UP FOR FREE, and head to Ebates before shopping.  Search for Kohl’s and they will send you to the Kohl’s site.  Now everything you buy will earn you additional cash back!   This can range from 3% to 6% back on the final purchase price!

20. Sign up for Swagbucks

By signing up for SWAGBUCKS and using it when you search online, you can earn FREE Kohl’s gift cards. Save them up over the course of the year and use the gift cards you earn to buy Christmas presents!

Putting it All In Action

I’m already signed up for all of the offers and deals, but I asked a friend if she’d be willing to try signing up so that we could see how much money you can save if you’ve never taken advantage of any of these deals. My friend has a 2-year-old and is starting to think about needing to buy clothes for warmer weather. She added toddler clothes to her cart that added up to $109. Then she did the following:

• She used a 20% off baby and toddler clothing promo, which made her total $87.20.
• She used a 15% off whole purchase discount from signing up for text alerts, which made her total $74.12.
• She applied for and paid with her Kohl’s charge card and got an extra 35% off, which made her final total $48.17.

After tax, she paid $52.51 for $109 worth of merchandise, which is more than 50% off! And because she spent at least $48, she will get back $10 in Kohl’s Cash!

Want to expand your extreme couponing into retail? Kohl’s is the only store where saving an average of 60% or more is easy when you use Kohl’s coupons and these tips:

1. Spend $48 — not $50 — to get $10 in Kohl’s Cash.

During Kohl’s Cash earning periods, you can receive $10 Kohl’s Cash for every $50 spent. But, according to official store policy, as long as your order is over $48 you’ll still earn the $10 Kohl’s Cash. Remember, you must reach $48 after all applicable discounts are applied and before tax.

2. The best time to shop is 3PM Friday to 1PM Saturday.

Shop Power Hour specials to save an additional 10-25% both in-store and online. Night owls will want to shop between 3PM to close on Fridays. Early birds can shop Saturdays from open to 1PM. These in-store and online markdowns come around a couple times per month and will be advertised in your local paper and online.

3. Look for price tags with a square in the upper-right corner.

A square in the upper-right corner of an LCD price tag indicates the item has reached the lowest price of the season. The price of this item won’t drop again unless it goes on clearance.

4. Decode Kohl’s electronic price codes.

Like Costco, Kohl’s has a coding system to track markdowns and place signage. Codes appearing in the upper-right corner of an LCD price tag can include:

BB = Bonus Buy
BGH = Buy One, Get One Half Off
PP= Product Placement: The sale price is fixed and not a percent discount.
S = Sale: The item will be on sale for 1-2 weeks.

5. Price match in-store and online.

Kohl’s honors competitors’ prices for in-store items only—but you can still use a 15% off coupon on the lower price. (15% is the maximum discount offered on price-matches.)

Price-matching commandments you need to know:

1. A competitor can be any national retailer that has a brick-and-mortar (physical) store (ex: Best Buy, Lowe’s, Walmart).
2. Kohl’s won’t price match with wholesale clubs (Costco, Sam’s Club) and online-only retailers (Amazon).
3. Kohl’s stores won’t match prices from Kohls.com.
4. The price of the item must be sold by the retailer and not through a separate vendor.
5. Kohl’s won’t match clearance prices or “Buy One, Get One” promotions—either by Kohl’s or a competitor.
6. If you’d like to use a coupon, Kohl’s will only offer up to an additional 15% off the sale price when price matching. Simply, they’ll honor the competitor’s sale price with a coupon up to 15% off, or the current Kohl’s price with the entire coupon value.
7. You can redeem Kohl’s Cash when price matching with a competitor.
8. You must bring a copy of the competitor’s ad with a current date.
9. If you want to price match an item on Target.com, you can show the price on your mobile device, and it will be at the store’s discretion whether or not the mobile version is honored.
10. If the item you want to price match is an online item, send Kohl’s a link of the item on their website and the competitor’s website for verification.

6. Get paid when the price drops after your purchase.

If an item you bought goes on sale (at Kohl’s or at a competitor) within 14 days of your purchase, show your original receipt and proof that the price of the item was further reduced from the final price you paid (clearance and BOGO markdowns are excluded). Request a partial refund at the customer service desk or by calling (855) 564-5705. Also keep in mind that any coupon codes applied to your original purchase must still be valid in order to apply them to the new sale price. See Kohl’s price adjustment policy.

An example: Let’s say a week ago you bought an Adirondack chair for $62.90 after stacking two coupon codes, and today the chair is on sale for $59.99. You can receive a price match of $2.91.

If the “$10 off a $30 purchase” coupon code is still valid, you can get a price adjustment of $12.91. If the chair is on clearance for 80% off ($47.99), you can’t price match because Kohl’s doesn’t price match clearance.

16. The worst things to buy at Kohl’s are electronics and shoes.

Kohl’s has a growing list of products that are not eligible for promotional offers and coupons. Most notably, the list includes nearly all electronics brands, Nike products, Keurig and NutriBullet, making them some of the worst items to buy at Kohl’s.

17. The best things to buy at Kohl’s include apparel and kitchen appliances.

Some of the best deals we routinely see at Kohl’s include apparel deals on brands like Carter’s, Disney, Fila, Columbia, and Dockers; and kitchen appliance deals on brands like KitchenAid, Nutri Ninja and Dyson.

Think of the Kohl’s app like your coupon organizer. Scan in your physical coupons and Kohl’s Cash, look up current coupons to redeem in-store or online, and watch your Yes2You Rewards tally automatically. You can even pay your Kohl’s credit card bill on the app.

Kohl’s mail-in rebates can net you up to $40 or $50 in savings for just a few minutes’ work! Rebate offers can include prepaid Visa cards, cash back, valuable credits towards future purchases, and more.

21. Kohl’s clearance prices are 60, 70, 80 or 90% off regular price.

Kohl’s clearance is where it’s at. Savings start at 60% and go up from there. Use this link for clearance at Kohls.com.

22. Kohl’s coupons CAN be redeemed on clearance items.

Don’t take your 80% and walk away! Use your 30% off coupon on top of the price for additional savings!

Kohl’s is known for offering various types of savings, but the amount of money you can expect to save there depends on how much you know.

Learning a few tricks to savvy shopping at the discount department store chain will boost your savings.

So, we’ve rounded up some of the most useful and least-known tips:

1. Remember the return policy

Kohl’s has one of the most flexible return policies. In fact, we cite it in “15 Stores With the Best Return Policies.”

Among the most noteworthy features of the policy is that there are generally no time restrictions for returns. One exception is premium-brand electronics, which have a 30-day return window.

You don’t need a receipt to return items, either. Having a receipt can help ensure that you receive a full refund and aren’t stuck with store credit, though.

Another handy feature of the policy is that you can return online purchases to your local Kohl’s store. You can even return Amazon purchases to Kohl’s stores now.

2. Know the ‘senior’ discount

Every Wednesday, Kohl’s stores offer a discount of 15% to customers who are at least 60 years old. You just need identification to claim the price break.

3. Stack discounts

Check the fine print on any discount before redeeming it.

Most types of discounts that you can redeem in a Kohl’s store — from the senior discount to copious coupons to Kohl’s Cash — can often be combined with at least certain other types of discounts. (More on Kohl’s Cash below.)

You can also “stack” online promo codes when shopping on Kohl’s website. That is, you can apply multiple promo codes to a single order. For more information about how this works, see Kohl’s “Using Multiple Coupons” webpage.

4. Get cash back online

If you shop online — whether at Kohl’s or elsewhere — be sure to go through a cash-back portal. Examples of this type of website include:

• Drop
• Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates)
• TopCashback
• Swagbucks Shop

When you use a cash-back portal, you can receive money back on every purchase you make at retailers that partner with the cash-back portal.

5. Pay with a rewards credit card

Using a credit card that offers rewards like cash back or frequent flier miles is a great way to get more for your money. Just make sure you’re able to pay off the credit card bill on time every month so you can avoid paying interest and late fees.

If you shop at Kohl’s often, consider its charge card. The benefits include additional discounts at least 12 times a year.

6. Pay with a discounted gift card

If you don’t have or want a rewards credit card or a Kohl’s charge card, you can often save at least another 10% by paying with a discounted Kohl’s gift card. You can find them through websites like Raise.com.

7. Join the loyalty program

Join Kohl’s free loyalty program — Yes2You Rewards — and you will earn one point for every dollar spent. For every 100 points earned, you will receive a $5 reward, which is similar to a coupon or promo code.

8. Understand Kohl’s Cash

Kohl’s discounts often include what the retailer calls Kohl’s Cash. When it’s offered, you might receive $10 in Kohl’s cash for every $50 you spend, for example.

You can earn and redeem these vouchers of sorts in stores and online.

Two key but little-known Kohl’s Cash secrets:

• Kohl’s Cash has fewer exclusions than other Kohl’s discounts. Those other discounts cannot be used to purchase higher-end products such as certain cosmetics and electronics, or higher-end brand names like Columbia, Dyson and Levi’s. But you can use Kohl’s Cash to buy such products.
• The Kohl’s website states that the retailer rounds up from $48. So, if $10 in Kohl’s Cash is offered for every $50 spent but you only spend $48 to $49.99, you will still earn the $10 in Kohl’s Cash. In my experience, however, this is only the case for in-store purchases, not online purchases.

9. Use the free store pickup option

You must generally spend at least $75 at Kohls.com for the order to qualify for free shipping.

If you don’t need that much stuff, consider opting to pick up your order at a Kohl’s store rather than having it shipped to you. You’ll still be able to shop and pay for your order online, but you’ll sidestep shipping costs.

1. Sign Up for Emails

You can get a 15% off coupon when you sign up to receive Kohl’s emails. Even better? Those emails tell you about sales and specials and often contain even more coupons.

2. Stack Your Coupons

Kohl’s lets you stack up to four different coupons for each online purchase. You can use a storewide coupon for, say, 20% off your entire purchase; a department-specific coupon, such as 10% off bedding; Kohl’s reward codes, such as Kohl’s Cash or Yes2You Rewards; and a free shipping code.

4. Get the Credit Card

If you shop at Kohl’s often, their credit card may be for you. You’ll get 20% off your first purchase right off the bat, and then you get a new coupon at least once a month for 15% to 30% off your purchase.

5. Get Kohl’s Cash

Several times throughout the year, Kohl’s releases special offers in which you can spend $50 and get $10 back in Kohl’s Cash, which is basically free money you can spend later on.

6. Shop Power Hours

Between 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Kohl’s hosts a Power Hour with discounts ranging from 10% to 25% off. This event happens several times per month, too, so make sure you’re watching for when these discounts happen.

7. Order Online, In Store

Use the Kohl’s kiosk within the store to order products that aren’t currently available in store, and you’ll always get free shipping.

8. Price Match for Best Prices

If you find an item at another store for less money, you can price match it at Kohl’s—as long as the other store has a physical location. (The price can be on the other store’s website, but the competitor retailer has to have physical stores, too.) You can even use a coupon and Kohl’s Cash on items that you price match.

9. Sign Up for Text Alerts

If you sign up for text messages from Kohl’s, you’ll get another 15% off coupon code, and like email alerts, you’ll receive news about special sales and promotions.

10. Yes2You Rewards

You get one point for every $1 that you spend in store or online as long as you give Kohl’s your phone number each time, or your Yes2You Rewards number. Every $100 you spend at Kohl’s, you get a $5 reward.

Plus, you’ll get extra coupons or bonus points with Yes2You Rewards. The points also stack, so if you spend $10 today, $30 next week and $60 the week after you get that $5 reward.

11. Senior Discount on Wednesdays

Kohl’s offers special senior discounts on Wednesdays. If you’re 60 or older, you’ll get an extra 15% off your purchase!

12. Create a Kohl’s Registry

If you create a registry at Kohl’s, and people purchase items off that registry, you get Kohl’s Cash for their purchases. You don’t even have to spend the money yourself—if they spend $200 on registry items, you get $40 in Kohl’s Cash!

13. Shop Your Registry

If you get at least one item from your registry, Kohl’s will give you a coupon for 15% off everything else on your registry!

14. Get a Price Adjustment

If the price of an item (excluding clearance items) you buy goes down later, you can get a price adjustment within 14 days. If you forget your coupons at home, you can get the price adjusted for that, too.
